Week 1 Round-up : 20 April 2008

Match 1 : Sell-Si FC vs Men’sChesthair Utd (4-3)

2 new teams with debutant managers slogged it out in this thrilling match. Shots were flying fast furious, right from kick-off. Samuel Thye (SS) scored the first goal of the season, scoring from a precise squared ball from his team mates. MCU struck back with Daniel hammering the ball into the low corner. Lionel nutmeg the goalie for SS second goal only for Daniel to equalized again when he beat SS’ keeper to the ball. The pattern continued with Ray Leong (SS) scoring from the halfway line and David equalizing for MCU. SS got the final break when Lionel scored from a corner and MCU didn’t have enough time to reply.

Match 2 : Shiock 04 vs Real Madrid (2-0)

The defending champion begins their defence of the league title in their usual business-like manner, playing a patient and controlled passing game. Not much action in this match as both teams cancelled each other out. Shiockers’ manager Kokwai made a few desperate but illegal sliding blocks, which curiously was allowed by the referee. Shiockers edged ahead in the dying minutes of the game when Jeremy blasted a shot to the top corner and Jianyi added a second.

Match 3 : Funny-Pasir vs Men’sChesthair Utd (0-1)

FP controlled the match but was lacking an attacking edge. Aiming for a win to start off their campaign, FP threw everything but the kitchen sink at MCU but found MCU’s keeper, Samshen, in marvelous and uncompromising form. Samshen’s saves frustrated FP’s players time and time again. MCU nicked the victory when an unfortunate deflection saw the ball rolled past FP’s keeper for the solitary goal of the match.

Match 4 : Sell-Si FC vs Severe-ah? (4-3)

Shawn (SS) scored the first hat-trick of the season in this pulsating match, with Jeshua scoring the other goal for SS. SA were forced to play the beginning portion of the match with only 4 players as Andrew were forced out by an injury. However, he braved the pain and gamely came back on to help his team when he saw that SS were bullying SA and running riot with their extra man. With the number of players balanced now, SA hit back with goals from Andrew, Jong Chuieh and Ryan but were unable to stop SS from notching their second successive victory.

Match 5 : Funny-Pasir vs Real Madreed (0-0)

A match of little chances, with the best chance going to Oon, when his shot hit the post and bounced out. With Andy (FP) marshalling the defence splendidly, FP kept on pouring forward but was lacking the edge in the final third of the field. RM played well but FP’s keeper was hardly made to sweat in this rather bland match.

Match 6 : Shiock 04 vs Severe-ah? (4-2)

In this strange match, both teams played with 4 players only. Jianyi (Shiock) scored first and Kokwai added a second before Lil’Kev replied back for SA. Henry (Shiock) and Ryan then scored to make it 3-2. SA almost equalized when the score was 3-2 but their goal was disallowed as SA has committed a foul prior to the goal. Shocked, SA failed to recover quickly enough before Shiock turn the table and scored another goal immediately.

Very proud of Severe-ah as the team battled a long period against SS with 4 men. And hats off to Andrew who played through in pain.

Hmmm, quite an interesting Matchday 1 don't you think guys. But im very sure Matchday 2 will be full of surprises especially from teams like Real Madreed who havent been living up to the strongest team expectation so they are definitely a team to look out for next week. Oh yeah, and to Severe-ah? players, hats off to you guys. amazing amazing grit and determination, I was almost pissing in my pants at the end of the game, feel bad that you couldnt put out a full team. As my team Sell-'Si', 6 goals conceded in 2 games?! not a very good thing i would say but then again after all said and done attacking is the best defence.

Yeah, sell si has a good offensive team with shawn.

Btw, MCU has 3 points!! Not bad for Victor's debut eh?!

Shiok is an organised team. Watch how they play near the flanks. 4 against 4 is not too bad of a game though.

my predictions for this season..

sell-si and shiock 04 will have a very tough challenge against each other (just like shiock 04 and real madreed last season)

well.. predictions made based on current players in the team :)

i expected severe-ah to also have a fight for top spot.. hope next week they come out with better results :) and hopefully it wont be a 2 way race for the top spot only :)

note to shawn : get more defensive players in mid season transfer.. :) though i know there are not enough.. lol.. but i`m having high expectations on your team.. lol..

and gilbert... get attacking players pls.. lol.. 1 only is not enuf la.. haha.. IMO la.. lolx.. :)

Haha Duck, i would love to play 4v4, it would suit my team perfectly since we r already conceding so many goals, might as well just go all out and attack. think we should suggest it to the organizer.

Mattster, its no my fault that i dn have enuf defensive players, it just that a certain team *hint hint*, had to get a whole team of goalies n defenders. next week will be tough especially against real madreed who has ony conceded one goal, but we have already sorted our strat out for the next few games so ur all gonna be in for a big surprise.

To Gilbert, just a pointer, you cant afford to play your best player out of position.

8:43 PM

Blogger Unknown said...

I'm sure Gil knows what he's doing...and maybe playing is best player out of position isn't the best for the player...but maybe it helps the team work better as a whole...He's been a manager with a fair amount of sucess..

9:58 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hmm... some managers are tactically sound in the game, while some take advantage of the transfer market to buy up all the *hint* players so that others can have none of those!

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ah Kev, dun get so defensive its just my piece of advice,as you kno i am pretty close to the player so i know what is going on and besides, though they have been playing well defensively with their best player playing last men, futsal is all about scoring goals.

But den again you should know all about playing your best players in unfamiliar positions *hint hint*, but like you said, the manager's know whats best for the team right.oh yeah, im looking forward to seeing your team do well, i still think your team is one of the team's to beat, the standings don't do enough justice to how good your team is.Theres gonna be big names in the transfer window cz we can each only block one player.

Wah chill guys.. getting a lil heated up in here eh... lol...

Anyway, no harm giving some constructive advise to managers, who aren't perfect anyway.. although most of the time, I do believe they know wut they're doing.. unless it's lil Kev... hahahahaha.. LOL!!! just joking yah!!

All the best guys in the coming weeks!

Verat. I agree that we should just attack all the way. Its all due to lack of goalies in the league or even people that we know. (thats why there is only one goalie and 10 outfield players).

a team without a proper goalie should just go all out and pin them back. Problem is its still the 4 of us.

Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ur so right la Verat, should just attack and pin the the opposing team back, sounds like a good idea, maybe i should use that strategy against RM, i foresee a huge backlash by the RM players who havent won a game yet, too bad my team have to face them this coming week. Gilbert give chance la, you won the cup twice dy, give me chance la.
i think we should only bring in players if there is a shortage in every team, for SA i think some managers are willing to help you out as we feel that ur team are in dire need.to be honest i would love to have a team like kevin's minus the injuries ofcz, potential cup winners.

8:10 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

To curb future season-long injuries maybe we could relax a bit(just a bit only la) and enjoy the game more. The intensity n adrenaline rush is one of the attractions of our league games yet it is the cause of many injuries. When games are at fast pace mistakes tend to happen. Another thing is let's be competitive yet clean. Play ball, not the player. Maybe we should have a fair-play award which big cash prize *hint hint*

recent events suggest that there isn't much sportsmanship in the league.

Two seasons ago, we slammed RM for buying up more keepers than they should leaving one of the team without a keeper. Yet, there is a repeat of it this season when you find 3 players who can play keeper in the same team and other teams gets a makeshift keeper as a main keeper. Organisers should really look into this matter since it has been allowed to happen for a second time.

1:03 AM

Blogger Administrator said...

in view of severe-ah predicament, perhaps managers should note to buy players who can also double up as make-shift goalie as their PRIORITY,

rather than blame teams that got more keeper-able players OUT OF SHEER CONINCIDENCE, when their keeper crocked up.

9:24 AM

Blogger Administrator said...

come on, ducky, just because my team got three potential keeper doesn't mean i've got 3 keeper.

be honest, if u've andy in your team, would you have play him as keeper? I'd play him outfield as he's most effective there.

As for myself, i won't even put myself as keeper...dat's y i haven't been a keeper for many months oredi :)

So, to say i've 3 keeper is way off the mark. You think i bought andy for his goalkeeping skill ah?

in my mind, lil'kev can make a good keeper too, why not play him there instead of lamenting abt my team?

there was one game last season where edwin played well as a makeshift keeper...that does mean shiock has 2 goalie as well? no wait a minute, kokwai plays a keeper too! that means his team got 3 keepers, just like mine?!

come on, it's not the organisers fault....just blame on it on bad luck with injuries.

each team has it but yours are jsut more, how to put it, severe-la....hahahah.

cheer up, dude....the season is still young.

Alamak Ryan what is this man, expected you to be more of a man than this. 2 season's ago i was the captain of the team witout the keeper, yes we complained but its just all part of the game,we complained but nothing can be done but how can you say that history is repeating itself when the organizers have take precautions to solve this problem. e.g: blocking the keepers during transfer window. some teams chose more make shift keepers for their team as they see it as more of an importance as compared to an outfield player if an injury happens so you cant blame anyone. its just how you strategize and clearly Kevin chose Wee Liam with you and all the other managers present as we were warning him about the potential risks in takin wee liam. Firstly, wee liam did not want to play keeper but kevin said that he would talk him into it, there you already killed his passion of being a danger man and running at defenders. Second, Kevin said that if wee liam still insisted on not being keeper, he would sacrifice and do it. so as much as i symphatise with yr team's condition, a MAN-ager should always stick by his word and get the outfield player that you need.to be honest i really dont think its the injuries that are hurting your team, its the way yr manager chose the players. knowing that wee liam is such a good player up front, if i was manager i would choose him and a makeshift keeper so that when i feel like playing attacking football i can just put wee liam up there and still have a solid person in goal. with all the materials that kevin brought into the poling session, i really thought that he would have every flaw solved.but i guess not.
to be honest we managers are getting sick and tired of all this whining, we have offered help, basically even spoon-feeding you but ur so choosy. you have probably eaten more salt than me, and you should know that no one always gets what they want in life, well at least not instantly. hence when adversities arise, we all have to rise up and sore like wings of eagles.look at Victor, im so proud of him as a manager, we can all learn a thing or two from him.
Tell you what Ryan. go discuss this issue with a few others like Alwin or even your own teammate JC, they will probably be very very surprised at the way you both are reacting and probably even....

2:45 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

history are meant for "inconvenienced decisions" to be learned, let's move on than talk about it else we wont progress. resist feeding negativity with blaming, complaining and gossiping. whining are for kids that nobody listens.

no hard feelings for the above mentioned but the game must go on. And that doesn't mean feedbacks is not taken into considerations else these kinda thing gonna get repeated again in the next season.

like the admin says, "if you have the ball, play the ball, if not, play off the ball....heheheh...it's all abt the ballz"

3:47 PM

Anonymous Anonymous said...

well, shawn, Kevin chose the keeper, YES. I suppose if you learn that your keeper and Jeshua will be out for the rest of the season then it could be a different story for you altogether.

I suggested that the team needs a keeper, and should be allowed to bring in one.

This is what i hear from WeeLiam himself that he has reiterated many times that he doesn't want to be a keeper since the day he was approached. There are other players in the league that can play in that position that we all know, but how come they are not being so called 'forced'into it? Get your facts right. Don't worry, i wont put any personal attacks on you as its a discussion.

And as suggested by you, drawing Uncle Peter. He is not in the list of players. So, isn't he considered as a none player?

I am not fighting for Matthew to be in my team, in fact.. i told Kev that we need a keeper more than anyone else. But i suppose most of you guys didn't want Matt to be in the picture cos he may change the whole equation which i can understand. Honestly, my advice to kev was to get someone who can at least play keeper like JTan.There is no way any team can last through the season without a keeper. Haven't you been whining about the wrong stuff?

Btw, on a separate matter, cos my advice was for a keeper.. if matt is so valuable, why let him play again in the league? coming in during the season or starting the season doesn't matter anymore isn't it? cos every team he plays in will surely win?

This I want to make it clear, if i was the manager, I will not take in matt. For the obvious reason, he's no keeper. But i'm just surprised at all your reaction when Kev wanted matt.

As mentioned by you that i've eaten more salt than you, below are the things that i have suggested before the league started:

1. The teams are stretched too thin. Should make do with lesser teams.

2. Instead of playing 2 games in a day, which is really hectic and if any team has less players, they will suffer for 2 games instead of 1.

3. There are quite a few of key people involved in leadership summit and ICBM (if any). So, those whom are involved will be definitely out from the first game.

* i acknowledge special change of schedule was done for SA last week because of my involvement and the team has only 4 players. But it can't be done every week.

There are several people involved as organisers, in fact, i am partly involved in it as well. And i am merely highlighting it so that it does not re-occur.

who the heck is jtan anyway?

anyway, i think the whole conflict is because severe-ah wanted matt, to which all oppose, because of the disequilibrium factor (simply means all team not equal anymore).

it's not because matt is super good, it's just that severe-ah is only not so strong, not super weak. by adding matt in, they'll be too strong certain teams and we don't want any bloodbath.

if lil'kev wanted to put in a keeper, i don't think anyone would object. why didn't he say so?

So, let the *COMICS settle it la.

Just alike Ryan. Shawn, I'm not going to take any personal swipes at you either. Lets get some issues straighten up. Firstly, how would you know if Wee Liam's passion has already been killed? He played through last week despite being sick speaks to me of committment and passion at it's peak. I knew that Wee Liam did not want to play goalkeeper, however He's too valueable a player to lose to an opposition that's why I took him. Yes, I did say I would also play as goalkeeper should Wee Liam insisted that He did not want to play goalkeeper, that's what I think as a team manager I can do. Which is to accomodate the best wishes of my team-mates. Quoting you Shawn, "a MAN-ager should always stick by his word and get the outfield player that you need." In fact, which I've tried very hard to do so, but have been denied for many unknown reasons. In my defence, you don't think it's the injuries that's hurting my team?? but the way I choose players?? I really really think YOU'RE RIGHT!! I picked the wrong players, that's why my team is considered the most balanced team in the league( short of a proper goalkeeper). Anyway, you know better not to leak out precious information like telling your opposing manager what to do with his team, it's an advantage gained for any oppositions that play against my severely injured team. And technically speaking, I don't think the materials i brought in were flawed actually, It just wasn't what you wanted to hear and therefore in your eyes it's flawed. It's a very subjective issue, cause everyone has their take on this. I'm also human by the way, and things are overlooked sometimes and mistakes do happen, I don't know if you what mistakes are because you sure sound like you've done everything right. Our team never asked to be spooned fed, It was the kind hearted managers who willing reacted to this crisis of mine instantly, and despite I know turning down ideas and suggestions is because I want a fair evaluation on this issue. At everytime, I've said that I appreciated the help of the other managers (everyone included). Yes, Victor is doing a good job and i'm sure everybody acknowledges that. Lastly, you sound pretty damn sure that JC and Alwin are on your side? I would double check on that if I were you..

Shawn, just what is wrong wiht you? Do you even read my comments about getting a keeper? Its English for goodness sake.

This is what a matured guy said:

"And technically speaking, I don't think the materials i brought in were flawed actually, It just wasn't what you wanted to hear and therefore in your eyes it's flawed. It's a very subjective issue, cause everyone has their take on this. I'm also human by the way, and things are overlooked sometimes and mistakes do happen, I don't know if you what mistakes are because you sure sound like you've done everything right."

And why do you think people will surely back you? Thats naive isn't it? Ooops.. naive is not maturity. Thats what the English dictionary said the last time i checked it.

The whole argument here is about getting matt and as pointed out already its about MATT.. not a keeper. Which part of it that you did not understand?

After all this happened, i was shown the emails you sent to kev. We appreciate your comments, in the beginning you do sound genuine. But at the end of all those emails, you are just being sly about things.

You contradict some of your comments too. I appreciate if you actually read comments correctly before making personal attacks or at least find out the truth first.. as you said, you are a MAN-ager.

Gosh it is really not about Matthew, why do you think we are not allowing anyone else into the league?

I objected, didn't he tell you?and so did a few others. to me its all about respecting the game and the rules and regulations of the league as well as the players.
We just don't want, in the future, when other problems arise similar to this, other managers will try to find any solution that will suit them best and will use this issue as proof that we can change and amend the rules whenever we want to. its just not right at all.

Rules are made by man not planks, and can be subject to change due to circumstances.

Are you really speaking for all the managers?

As far as i know:

1 Manager said ok.
1 Manager said if Matt stays in goal, its fine. But only in goal. (i doubt SA will do that)
1 Manager quoted here if its keeper, it should be fine with other managers (i presume he can only represent himself there).

Anyways, still looking forward to playing with you next season definitely. If im lucky enough to every get first pick maybe we might end up together, haha, sound so gay man, we can wear our matching gay total 90 shirts, lol.

Hello dear fellow bros in futsaland ,I apologize for all the trouble and inconvenience caused ...esp to the managers. This season was organized in a way so that some players that was left out last season or didn't managed to play much could join in and have some fun too,& i think we gave ample time for ALL players to register (even the midnight before ''theplayer -choosing event at McD'' like david ).Sofar , i am very encouraged by what I saw in you guys last week ...such great character shown(...the way an injured player decided to conquer pain to play for his teamates; A feverish boy choosing to play out of love for the game and commitment to his team; a new star in ManCH Utd shining brightly like ronaldo (including hairstyle) ) ; teams that fought back bravely even when the odds were against them ;the strong handshakes and smiles during the start of the 4vs4 final game that reflected the light heartedness but yet utmost respect for each other ;It's a joy to witness such sportsmanship and unity ) Despite everything that has been going on ,i just wanna say thank you for allowing me to be part of this great big "band of brothers" Woohoo !! Seeya guys this sunday . And to those who are recovering from injuries ...Godspeed and get well soon !!!
