Week 2 Round-up : 27 April 2008

Match 7 : Shiock 04 vs Funny Pasir (2-2)
Both teams started the match confidently. FP showed their intent early on with Andy testing the Shiockers’ keeper with a dipping shot that unfortunately clipped the post. Jeremy scored the first goal for Shiockers against the run of play. This forced FP to introduce their secret hitman, Lawrence. The move paid off when Lawrence equalized for FP. Kokwai returned the lead for Shiockers and defended stubbornly in the face of FP’s response. Lawrence came to FP’s rescue again when he capitalized on a stray back pass by the Shiockers. Confusion ensued when the Shiockers claimed the ball didn’t cross the line. After consulting with the assistant referee, the match referee awarded the goal and the score remained till end.

Match 8 : Real Madreed vs Sell-Si FC (5-0)
After impressive back to back wins last week, SS went into the match will all guns blazing. RM, who had mixed fortune last week, responded well and got the first goal thru Oon. Shocked, SS were further traumatized when Oon scored again from a corner. Shawn tried to rally his SS troops but RM exposed their defensive frailty again when Suresh hit a rocket passed their helpless goalie. Things began to boil at this point as the SS players were showing their frustration with late tackles, shoving and pushing and this prompted the RM players to respond in kind. The referee had to stop the game a few times to talk and calm the players down. RM rounded up the match with two other goals from Suresh and Oon to give SS a real hammering.

Match 9 : Shiock 04 vs MenChest’sHair United (1-1)
Jeremy proved to be Shiocker’s secret weapon extraordinaire this season as he opened the scoring again, this time a beauty that nestled at the top far corner. MCU fought back gamely, a hallmark of their game this season, and leveled the score when David’s shot was stopped by the goalie but the ball rolled underneath his body passed the line. Galvanised, MCU pressed ahead and almost got the lead when Daniel’s ferocious shot was parried by the goalie, hit the post and bounced out. Shiock pressed forward and would have gotten a few more goals if not for the magnificent display by MCU’s goalie, Samshen, who was in a uncompromising mood.

Match 10 : Real Madreed vs Severe-ah? (2-1)
The team at the middle of the managers controversy, SA, managed to put up a full team after the mid-week debacle. Weeliam passed a late fitness by the team doctor and started the match as SA’s keeper. However, within 30 seconds of the kick-off and SA are 1-0 down. Although SA got the kick-off, they lost possession of the ball almost immediately to Suresh (RM) and he wasted no time in sending the ball to the top corner. The game settled down after that and there were plenty of passing by the SA team but no penetration. After a lull, Oon managed to dispossess Verat and drilled low shot for RM second goal. Lil’kev urged his team on and pulled one back for SA after a few tries.

Match 11 : Funny-Pasir vs Sell-Si FC (1-1)
Smarting from the earlier thrashing, SS managed to give a more composed display this time. Both teams were pushing hard and testing each other keeper. Samuel Thye gave SS the lead when he sneaked behind the last defender and scored with ample of time and space. FP made a few substitutions with the aim to unsettle SS. With the clock running down, Andy pushed forward and scored a cracker to level the score for FP and gave them their third draw from 4 games.

Match 12 : MCU vs Severe-ah? (2-1)
MCU continued with their impressive display by beating SA in the last match of the day. SA were using a stand-in keeper, Aaron, as Weeliam was unable to play. MCU first goal came courtesy of Daniel, who headed in the long throw from Samshen, past the shocked Aaron. SA again played their short passing game but still can’t seem to find that important edge. Daniel and Samshen combined again to give MCU their second and Ryan pulled one back for SA.

guys, if you start arguing with the ref and the ball is still on play, its your team who will suffer cos you did not run back to cover in defense. Just listen to the whistle.

Refs here are not professional and even pros do make mistakes. Just listen to the whistle. The refs has been really kind in not showing any cards so far.

wah liau..haven't been logging in to the blog for a while and next thing I know, I'm with the "dark side"....kana sai...makes me feel like i'm Darth Vader...hehe...anyway, after reading all your comments, i just felt compelled to say this. As much as we all want to win every single game, we must also remember that we're not playing in any pro league. Watch how we play. Watch those tackles. It just doesn't justify to get get anyone injured. Always listen to the referee. He's the final decision maker. Play to the whistle. And lastly, enjoy the game!! cheers...may the force be with you..!!!

actually, ref have the upperhand to distract players from main kasar. before such act can be committed, ref can just stop/pause the game, award the ball to any player and play on. players will start cursing at ref but hey no player gets injured except ref's ego on da line lar.
