FINAL League Standing @ Week 6 : 28 September 2008

After 6 tumultuous and super exciting weeks, the results are in….the Champion for Season 3/2008 is MEN’SCHESTHAIR!!!

Bravos to the winning team and kudos to everyone for competing well!

The final league table are as follows :-

1. MCH – 19 pts / GD = +12

2. JC - 17 pts / GD = +12

3. FLT – 13 pts / GD = +14

4. LLf – 7 pts / GD = +1

5. RM - 1 pt / GD = -39

Match 16 : Live-Like-Fools vs JC's Barf-alone-ah (2-4)
This was a must win game for JC. After all the tough talking and trash walking the previous week, LLf started in their usual stride….conceding the early goal again, this time via corner deftly put in by Jeshua. JC added another 2 more goals as LLf seemed to have left for their Raya holidays early. At 3-0 down, at last LLf woken up and snatched back 2 goals to galvanize hope of at least salvaging something for this but in the end, JC struck again to extinguish the last flicker of fight back from LLf. In the end, sensing the inevitable, LLf just plodded along, conserving energy for their final but pride redeeming match against RM.

MOTM - Daniel

Match 17 : Florence&Tina vs Real Madreed vs (7-2)
RM was forced to field only 4 players as its members went MIA. FLT however, played with 5 players, albeit chances were given the substitutes to start the game. Outnumbered and outplayed, RM quickly found themselves trailing 0-4 thru goals by all the 4 FLT’s outfield players, Victor, Raymond, Alwin and Melvyn. Bruised and battered, RM gamely fought on and pulled a goal back thru Mervyn. FLT were not thru yet and hit RM with another 2 goals before one of RM’s MIA players resurfaced. Now that the disparity in number is overcome, RM managed to grab another goal. FLT had the last say when Samshen, playing outfield for the first time this season, headed the ball in past the stunned RM’s keeper for the last goal.

MOTM – Alwin

Match 18 : Men’s-ChestHair vs JC's Barf-alone-ah (2-2)
This was an extremely important match for both teams. Whoever wins this will win the league but a draw will transfer the impetus to the last match between MCH and the Freakazoids. The hurricane came and battered MCH but you can always count on Steady Andy to save the day. Besides the battle of the managers, it is also a battle between father and son, Steady Andy and Dynamite Dan. JC huffed and puffed but alas, whatever they threw against MCH was repelled back by the stubborn MCH led by Hairy Eddy. MCH got the first salvo thru Andy but JC hit back incisively thru Jeshua’s freekick and Daniel. JC seemed to be heading for victory as Aaron played like a man possessed, blocking every shot thrown at him. As the clock ticked down, MCH became more exasperated and Hairy Eddy wase forced to try shooting from far to force the equalizing goal. All seemed lost for MCH until Andy rose to the occasion again to level the score in the dying minutes, much to JC’s despair.

MOTM – Andy

Match 19 : Live-Like-Fools vs Real Madreed (11-4)
Stand-up comedy aptly summed this game up. Both teams got nothing to play for but pride and fun, not necessarily in that order. LLf started aggressively but the team seemed to have put on the wrong shoes during the break as their finishing was atrocious. RM went ahead when an innocuous looking shot from Gilbert, playing as keeper, hit LLf’s keeper and went in for goal, much to everyone’s amusement. LLf’s manager was later quoted as saying that it was a calculated mistake, aimed to shock his player into playing properly. True or not, it worked because LLf then went on a rampage, notching 11 goals in between the 3 more goals by RM. The players seemed to go on a scoring frenzy, notching goal after goal, irrespective of whether it was their opponent’s goal or their own goal. In the end, both teams contrived to create league history for the highest scoring game, 15 goals in total. Luckily, it was not all one sided.

MOTM - Jeremy

Match 20 : Men’s-ChestHair vs Florence&Tina (2-1)
After their battling and bruising draw with JC, MCH needed to summon all their reserve energy for a victory here, because anything less than that will hand JC the title. FLT however, was not in a giving mood as they struck first through Raymond. This stunned MCH greatly and put them under even more pressure. Again, the hero of day came to their rescue when Andy scored from a Flyboy’s cross to equalize. MCH went further ahead when Andy capitalized on Melvyn’s hesitation to close him down to score from a corner. Not satisfied with the slim one-goal margin, MCH continued pushing for the killer goal but FLT stood him. Instead, it was FLT who was nearer to scoring with shots after shots hammering MCH’s goal but fortunately for MCH, Feiloong’s was playing the game of his life to eventually help MCH win the title for the first time ever.

Prize giving ceremony and season-end dinner will be held in 2 weeks’ time at a place and time to be announced later. Prices and menu will depend on whether we can locate our missing treasurer, who has gone into hiding from ah-longs due to unsettled debts from betting on the futsal matches.

There are no winners or losers in futsal, only survivors. You shall have approximately 2-3 months to rest and nurse you injuries, before we resume battle again soon.

League Standing @ Week 5 : 21 September 2008

Sorry for the delayed posting...real hectic Sunday. Right after the matches, had to rush back to catch the final 2 episodes of Moonlight Resonance on Astro on Demand....damned chee-kik gila, man.

After the show is over, it was over to channel 812 for the Chelski-Mancis match. Though missed the first 20 mins, luckily I managed to catch the diving exhibition by Ronald 'O Mcdonald and laughed myself silly. Great game, though. Chelski were wasteful in front of goal and that miss of the season from Anelka....unbelievable.

A not-so-little gagak mentioned that since Title-fools beat Mancis, and Stoke City drew with Title-fools and subsquently Mancis drew with Chelski, then it can be summirsed that Stoke City is better than Mancis and Chelski! Twisted logic is the best logic, i tell you.

Ramblings aside, here's the latest standings after 15 matches :

1. MCH – 15 pts / GD = +11

2. JC - 13 pts / GD = +10

3. FLT – 10 pts / GD = +10

4. LLf – 4 pts / GD = -4

5. RM - 1 pt / GD = -27

Match 13 : Florence&Tina vs JC's Barf-alone-ah (1-2)
Daniel grabbed JC’s first goal when Jeshua brilliantly lobbed the ball over the onrushing Freaks’ defence to set Daniel up one-on-one with the keeper. JC gained momentum from there and would have been much further ahead if not for the heroics of Samshen, who saved 3 point blank shots. The Freaks held most of the possession but seemed lost in attack until Raymond equalized with a goal from the centre field. The Freaks almost got ahead when another shot from Raymond beat the goalie but Daniel headed the ball clear on the line. To add salt to injury, Daniel then produced another gem when he turned sharply and drilled a low shot that nestled into the bottom corner of the goal.

MOTM – Daniel

Match 14 : Men’s-ChestHair vs Real Madreed vs (4-0)
MCH fielded a depleted side that’s missing their 2 livewires, Flyboy and Honyau. However, they still proved too much to handle for RM as they romped to a 4 nothing victory. Edrian turned out to be RM’s destroyer as he single handedly scored all the goals as RM failed to neutralize him and his infamous killa-tonjol shots.

MOTM – Edrian

Match 15 : Florence&Tina vs Live-Like-Fools (2-1)
LLf was unable to build on their first win last week as they succumbed to a Melvyn inspired victory. Melvyn’s first goal came when he collected a stray LLf pass and unleashed a thumping shot from his own half that flew pass the outstretched keeper’s reach. His second came when he let fly a thunderbolt from the left that gave the defender and goalie no chance at all. As it is usually the case for this season, LLf played catch-up again and altered their line-up by pushing James up to attack. This move paid off instantly as James slotted the ball in from close range. The referee blew for full time whistle shortly after that, much to the players and crowd bewilderment as they felt the game should be longer, to cater for the mid-match disruption and in-game stoppages.

MOTM - Melvyn

PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR THE FINALS NEXT WEEK, THE FIRST GAME SLOT WILL START AT 3.00PM INSTEAD OF THE USUAL 4PM....BE LATE AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

League Standing @ Week 4 : 14 September 2008

1. MCH – 12 pts / GD = +7

2. JC - 10 pts / GD = +9

3. FLT – 7 pts / GD = +10

4. LLf – 4 pts / GD = -3

5. RM - 1 pt / GD = -23

MCH retains their top spot despite losing their return game against LLf on Sunday. Meanwhile, JC (pic left) climbed over FLT into second spot as FLT stumbled. However, FLT has a game in hand over everyone.

The penultimate weekend matches this Sunday will see FLT take on JC in the first match. The first meet ended 2 all and this 6-pointer will definitely be a real scorcher as both sides are extremely close in the table.

The second game will pit RM against MCH. Hopefully RM will do better than the 6-1 roasting in the first leg.

LLf will be hoping that to make winning their habit as they seek to build on their fine showing last week. In the previous meetup, comical defending saw LLf lost 3-1 to FLT. Let’s keep the stand-up comedy outside the court, guys.

Did I mention it’s the penultimate week? All games are crucial now and no quarters will be given in the quest for IMMORTALITY!!!.

A few words of advice…..the FIRST shall be the FIRST, and if you’re not the first, who cares about second, third, fourth and fifth. This is Malaysia la; nobody segregate the RUBBISH!

Week 4 In Review : 14 September 2008

Match 10 : Men’s-ChestHair vs Florence&Tina (1-3)
FLT won the toss of coin for the kick-off and Dingdong set the tone of the match with a powerful shot that narrowly missed the goal. FLT looked the stronger and looked really threatening against an MCH team that started without its hair-honcho, Edrian. MCH got the breakthrough when Lil’kev, under pressure, absent-mindedly passed the ball to an opposing player, Honyau in front of the penalty box. One-on-one with the keeper, Honyau expertly dispatched the ball thru the legs of the onrushing keeper for the first goal.

MCH began exert its influence on the game, with twin terror Honyau and Fly-boy running circles around FLT defence. Edrian compounded FLT’s misery when he ‘tonjol-ed’ the ball for MCH’s second goal. Both teams began to step up the aggressive level, resulting in yellow cards for Melvyn, Andy and Lil’kev. Honyau produced another superb individual effort when he turned his marker the wrong way and scored from another one-on-one with the keeper. FLT’s consolation goal was scored by Ryan near the end of match.

MOTM – Honyau

Match 11 : JC's Barf-alone-ah vs Real Madreed vs (4-1)
The match started aggressively, not surpisingly since there at least 4 bulls in the ring (try guessing who). Suresh managed to beat his marker to put the ball past the keeper but to his dismay, the goal was disallowed as the referee has already blown for an earlier infringement. In the ensuing freekick, Gilbert drilled a low shot that went underneath the wall and the keeper to claim back the earlier disallowed goal. At long last, RM began to play like a team and looked to have the upperhand in the match. Lawrence got the chances to put RM further ahead when he found himself one-on-one twice with the keeper but he shot straight at the keeper both times. At this point, JC began to raise the game and got an equalizer when Jeshua scored from a freekick. Lionel, Daniel, and Shawn added the goals for JC as RM’s players lost steam and direction after conceeding the first goal.

MOTM – Daniel

Match 12 : Men’s-ChestHair vs Live-Like-Fools (0-2)
LLf tweaked their line-up to revive their faltering performance, with Kevin starting between the posts and Kokwai moving out to outfield. The move seemed to pay off immediately as Kokwai’s shot was deflected into the opponent’s goal by Flyboy for the first goal of the match. This is the first time LLf went in front in any match and things looked even better when Henry put LLf further ahead after some neat passing. At this point, LLf began to slow the game down to frustrate the chasing MCH. MCH’s game was further dented when Flyboy hobbled out injured. Their fight-back was not helped either by the tired Honyau, as he wasted 3 chances when he mis-kicked the ball after sidestepping his markers. With the other MCH’s players also tiring fast, LLf pulled everyone back and just rolled with punches as they held on stubbornly for their first win and clean sheet of the season.

MOTM – Oon

Week 3 In Review : 7 September 2008

Match 7 : Live-Like-Fools vs Florence&Tina (1-3)
LLF controlled the game from the start but it was FLT which scored first against the run of play from a corner. The ball was delivered to Melvyn who placed the ball past the blindsided goalkeeper. LLF shock was compounded when Alwin put FLT further ahead to complete a sleek counter attack move. At this point, FLT started to slow the game down to frustrate the chasing LLF. A miscalculated backpass from Jeremy saw Lil’kev sneaked in to place the ball pass the on-rushing keeper. At 3-0 down, LLF were increasingly frustrated but were given a vital lifeline when Jeremy pulled a goal back. LLF tried to increase the game tempo after that but FLT held firm till the final whistle.

MOTM – Alwin Lim (FLT)

Match 8 : Real Madreed vs Men’s-ChestHair (1-6)
RM makes vital changes to their line-up after their disastrous outing last week. Norman was put in goal as Chris injured his hand while Suresh made a comeback after missing the last two weeks. The changes seemed to have a positive effect as RM were having the upperhand while MCH was pinned down in their own half. Like the first game, MCH scored first against the run of play when Honyau’s shot deflected off 2 defenders to roll past the stranded goalkeeper. Both teams keep trading shots and MCH went further ahead with goals from Andy and Honyau. RM kept fighting and it was Norman’s heroics between the posts that kept RM from going further behind. RM’s persistence bore fruit when Suresh pulled one goal back. However, it was futile as MCH crushed RM’s challenge with further goals from Andy and Flyboy.

MOTM – Andy (MCH)

Match 9 : Live-Like-Fools vs JC's Barf-alone-ah (3-5)
LLF were caught flat-footed after their first game as JC raced to a 3-0 lead within 3 minutes of the start. Stunned LLF managed to recollect their composure and came fighting with a goal from Henry. However, JC scored again to stretch their lead to 4-1. James and Edwin then scored for LLF to narrow the score to 3-4. At this point, the fans were cheering for LLF to score another goal but they were left disappointed as it was JC which scored the last goal through Jireh, who was later substituted and went out to a standing ovation from the crowd.

MOTM – Daniel (JC)
